Settlement Support New Zealand - auckland

Auckland is New Zealand's biggest city with around 1.4 million people, and is often listed as one of the top four most liveable cities of the world. The region has a warm-temperate climate, with warm, humid summers and mild, damp winters.

Auckland is home to many cultures. The majority of inhabitants claim European - predominantly British - descent, but there are large Māori, Pacific Islander and Asian communities. Auckland has the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world and a higher proportion of people of Asian origin than the rest of New Zealand. Ethnic groups from all corners of the world can be found in Auckland, making it by far the country's most cosmopolitan city.

Central Auckland, surrounded by water and dotted with volcanic cones and public parks, has breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, wonderful recreation opportunities, outstanding food and wine, great shopping and exciting nightlife.

Public transport options in Auckland Central include buses, taxis, trains, and ferries, all of them generally modern and affordable.

Auckland is an exciting city to live, with many opportunities, and a huge range of services and agencies to assist its new residents. For newcomers, it is extremely important to find out where to go for the right information, suitable for your situation, as quickly as possible.

Auckland contains New Zealand's highest concentration of people, businesses and specialists, and is a knowledge base for education and research. It is also New Zealand's hub and gateway to international economy. This high concentration should translate into NZ's growth engine, yielding greater productivity and larger gains for the country.
