INTRODUCTION
The ARMS - Manukau Centre is located in the Manukau City Centre at: 6 Osterley
Way, Manukau. As the gateway to Auckland and New Zealand, Manukau City is a
melting pot of cultures and languages. Currently there are more than 160
different cultural groups from the continents of Asia, Africa, the Middle East
and Europe living across Manukau.
Our ARMS staff are committed to providing information and advice
to all migrants and refugees in Manukau to help them with their settlement
needs and goals. The Centre works closely with central government, local
authority and non government agencies to support successful settlement of
migrants and refugees in the Manukau City region.
Staff at the ARMS Manukau Centre are able to assist migrants and

GENERAL INFORMATION, ORIENTATION AND SUPPORT
Free workshops are held at the Manukau Centre, providing information and
orientation advice and support for migrants of all ethnicities.
Individual consultation is also available to link new settlers to appropriate
cultural, religious and ethnic communities and support services in Manukau
City.

PATHWAYS TO EMPLOYMENT
For migrants seeking employment, we hold "First Steps to Employment" workshops
bi-monthly on Wednesday, which focus on the information and skills needed to
search for suitable employment in New Zealand. These are suitable for migrants
of all types of employment skills and backgrounds.

. ARMS ESOL (English language) Advisor
Participants are provided with an individualized employment
plan, a resource pack, and a certificate of attendance. Ongoing follow-up
support is also offered by the Centre staff to help you address other
settlement needs you may have.
Free specialized workshops are also available at the ARMS
Manukau Centre for migrants interested in starting up a small business. The
main focus of these workshops is the provision of information and advice about
the New Zealand tax system and employment legislation. Centre staff can also
provide participants with information on business starter education programmes
available in Manukau.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT
Manukau has an ESOL Advisor who is available is to conduct one-on-one
assessment sessions with migrants and refugees to identify their particular New
Zealand English language needs.
During the session,
the ESOL Advisor will gather information on your:
. level of English (spoken and written)
. particular settlement priorities e.g. to get a job
. relevant circumstances e.g. where they live, access to transport, financial
situation
. entitlement to courses e.g. whether you have pre-paid through the "English
for Migrants' language levy as part of your immigration process
The ESOL Advisor will then provide you with recommendations as
to which ESOL options would be most suitable to meet your particular needs eg:
. name of a provider (school) including their address, contact
details, and information about how to get there
. types of courses offered by the provider
. cost of the courses
. a 'pathway' plan for developing your English skills further
. useful links to other settlement programmes or services
