PATHWAYS TO
EMPLOYMENT--INTRODUCTION
ARMS staff provide
accurate and up-to-date information and referral onwards to
appropriate organisations or agencies to assist migrants to access
employment in New Zealand through our "PATHWAYS TO EMPLOYMENT"
services. These services include: workshops on how to find
employment in NZ (First Steps), specialised workshops for
professional migrants, appointments with other agencies on-site
i.e. appointments with a Work Broker from Work and Income
(Tuesdays), appointments with Career Services, Job Board for
'entry-level' employment and advice on employment-related English
courses.

"FIRST STEPS TO EMPLOYMENT"
WORKSHOP
This workshop provides the
"first steps' to finding employment in NZ. It provides information
and introductions to agencies who can assist. This day-long
workshop has expert presenters covering:

This workshop is run at the Regional Centre
(Three Kings) weekly and at the Manukau Office fortnightly. See workshop schedules for details.

WORK BROKER (WORK & INCOME
NZ)
A WINZ Work broker is available on Tuesdays
at ARMS Three Kings centre for consultation and support in finding
an 'entry-level' job. He specializes in assisting migrants.
Meetings are by appointment and are scheduled during the
employment workshop. A "job board" in the Three Kings ARMS centre

SPECIALISED PROFESSIONAL
WORKSHOPS
ARMS works collaboratively
with other organisations on specialised 'Pathways to Employment'
initiatives. These are targeted at specific groups of professional
migrants to assist them in gaining employment appropriate to their
training and experience.
We also
offer workshops for Migrant Teachers, for more information on

SIGIE/IPENZ (Support Group for Immigrant Engineers and Institute
of Professional Engineers) on a project to support migrant
engineers into appropriate professional employment. For further

Career Services Rapuara (www.careerservices.govt.nz) is an
independent government agency offering training information and
advice, and career guidance to New Zealanders. They have branches
all around NZ, and in Auckland they have offices in Manukau and
the North Shore where Career Advisors work with clients on a
one-on-one basis, helping them with their career needs, including
assistance with CV preparation, interview skills, understanding
the needs of the employers, etc. These
services are FREE for all New Zealand permanent residents who are
unemployed or under employed.
ARMS WORKS CLOSELY WITH CAREER
SERVICES

A Careers Advisor is based
at the Three Kings Centre, three days a week for one-to-one
appointments with clients. Appointments can be scheduled by
calling ARMS on 625 2440 or at the end of the First Steps to
Employment Workshop held every week on Tuesdays.

NEW
KIWIS PROGRAMME
The Auckland Chamber of
Commerce has a New Kiwis website which supports highly qualified
migrants into employment. The purpose of this site is to link the
skills of migrants to job vacancies in the Small Medium Enterprise
sector in New Zealand. The site www.newkiwis.co.nz is funded by NZ
Immigration Service. For more information on New Kiwis please

The chamber also runs the
Kiwi Career Success programme, a free 2 and a 1/2 day course for
migrant job seekers. Courses are held every 2 weeks and
class sizes are limited. To register, call the Employment Division
